Adam Lallana reckons England’s victory over Scotland was less comfortable than the 3-0 score line suggests.
A crowd of 87,258 – the largest attendance for a Three Lions match since the 2-1 victory over Brazil in 2013 – watched Gareth Southgate’s men claim the win, but the hosts did not have everything their own way.
Liverpool playmaker Lallana bagged only his second ever goal for the national side, scoring either side of efforts from Daniel Sturridge and Gary Cahill.
And with England welcoming Spain to Wembley Stadium for a friendly on Tuesday night, Lallana reckons he and his colleagues have room for improvement.
He said: “It wasn’t as comfortable as we would have liked at the start of the game. We started sloppily and said a few things to one another at half time.
“We got the goals in the second half at the right time and 3-0 looks more comfortable than the game suggests but it gives us things to work on ahead of the game on Tuesday.”
Sturridge, who opened the scoring with a neat header after 24 minutes before Lallana and Cahill added gloss to the victory added: “Every game we try and play our football.
“We were unlucky not to break Slovenia down in our last game but we played the same style of football we played last time out and were more patient and in the end we wore Scotland down and deserved this result.”
