A Steven Anderson-inspired Morpeth Town eased their way into The Buildbase FA Vase third round with a 4-0 win over Hallam.
The defending champions, making their debut in this year’s competition, played out a goalless first 45 minutes at Sandygate, but Matthew Grieve put the visitors ahead early in the second period, before Anderson struck a two-minute brace and Liam Henderson grabbed the fourth to give Morpeth a comfortable win.
And there was more joy for FA Cup heroes Westfields as they continued their knockout form with a thrilling 3-2 win over Sherwood Colliery.
Richard Greaves grabbed the opener after just 12 minutes, before Dan Polan extended their lead with just minutes to play.
But there was still time for Sherwood to grab one back, before Polan took the lead to two again, only for the visitors to make it a nervy final few seconds, but Westfields held on for the win.
Nuneaton Griff continued their Vase form of last season – where they went from first round qualifying to the last-16 – with a 2-1 win at Wolverhampton Casuals.
Taking their Vase bow this term, Tom Bates putting the visitors ahead on 33 minutes, only for Casuals to grab one back on 50 minutes through Dominic Nicholls.
But parity did not last and Matty Brennan got the winner for Griff seven minutes later.
But the Buildbase FA Vase dream finally came to an end for this season’s bolters, as Blidworth Welfare – who entered in first round qualifying and beat higher-ranked opposition in each of their three fixtures so far – finally succumbed.
They went down 2-1 to AFC Mansfield, with Tim Gregory putting the minnows ahead, before goals from Oliver Fearon and Ryan Williams won it for the visitors.
And there were goals galore at Billingham Town, as they ensured safe progression with a 5-2 win over Sunderland Ryhope CW.
Hucknall Town also struck five as the beat Rocester at home, with the visitors just managing one in reply, and Berkhamsted beat Hullbridge Sports 5-2 at Broadwater.
The scoreline of the round, though, came as Horsham YMCA spoiled the Lancing party and won 7-1 at Culver Road.
Matt Crane gave the visitors an early lead, with Matt Simpson and Ash Dugdale trebling the advantage before the break.
Sam Schaaf made it four early in the second period, and Simpson grabbed his second on 52 minutes, before long-serving forward Nick Sullivan got the sixth 10 minutes later.
The rout was complete with just under half an hour remaining as Dave Brown grabbed his second, with Nana Baah’s strike proving just a consolation for the home side.
