Marieanne Spacey has named a 16-player England Women Next Gen squad for a November training camp.
The group will meet on Sunday for the six-day camp at Warwick University and St. George’s Park, where they will train alongside the England Women Senior team.
The Next Gen group has replaced the previous Under-23 set up, though the squad will still compete in U23-aged matches and competitions.
The changes are designed to maximise the development of the players, to strengthen the pathway into the senior team and allow older players to be part of the squad.
Spacey said: “As we prepare for our final camp of 2016, we have already seen positive progress in setting up the new age group.
“The transition between squads is becoming smoother and it is giving younger players the chance to train alongside those they can really learn from.
“This has given the players a real hunger and determination to continue to be part of this group and a great understanding of what they need to do if they want to become a senior player in the future.”
Following the camp, Spacey will then join up with the England Women Senior team as they prepare for their final game of 2016 against Netherlands in Tilburg on Tuesday 29 November (kick-off 6pm GMT).
