Salisbury made up for FA Vase heartbreak as Eddie Perrett’s double was enough to see off Hereford FC in a seven-goal thriller to progress to the first round qualifying stage of The Buildbase FA Trophy.
Steve Claridge’s side had missed out already in FA competition to Hereford at the semi-final stage of The Vase last season, but the man himself insisted they were not out for revenge as Tommy Wright headed home after just two minutes.
But the visitors fought back through Mike Symons – who scored against Salisbury in March – while John Mills' first penalty put them in the lead.

The hosts were left with the final say, however, with Perrett’s double sandwiching a Justin Bennett strike to seal preliminary round victory – despite Mills slotting in another late penalty to make it 4-3.
Elsewhere, they may have overcome their FA Trophy opponents 6-1 a week ago, but AFC Totton will need a replay to reach the next round after a 2-2 draw with Wimborne Town.
Toby Holmes needed a late fitness test, but his place on the pitch provided its rewards as he opened the scoring, although Totton had wrestled a 2-1 advantage by the break.
Curtis Angell and Dan Munday were on hand for the visitors, but Wimborne battled back as Stefan Penny’s beautiful chip means the teams will meet again on Tuesday night.
But it wasn’t to be for Barton Rovers, still without a win in the competition since 2011-12 as Herne Bay stole the tie with Stuart Zanone’s goal.
There were goals aplenty at Dorking Wanderers, however, with the hosts on the end of a nine-goal thriller as Northwood prevailed 6-3.
Billy Medlock was at the double for the hosts, but Louis Stead hit a hat-trick for a Northwood side prolific in front of goal to reach the first round qualifying stage.
In the afternoon’s other games, Rob Hopley was the hat-trick hero in Witton Albion’s 5-1 win over Brighouse Town, while Ware completed just their second away win in The FA Trophy thanks to a 3-1 victory against Aylesbury FC.
A 3-3 draw between Bedworth United and Rugby Town means they’ll have to do it all again on Tuesday night, while AFC Rushden and Diamond’s 1-1 draw with Histon gives them the same result.
Finally, Rob Bordman’s double was enough for Shaw Lane AFC to overcome Scarborough Athletic, while Osman Sillah needed just three minutes to score on Uxbridge debut in a 4-0 success over AFC Dunstable.
