St. Mary’s Stadium will play host as England Under-21s begin their preparations for next year’s Euro Finals when they face Italy on Thursday 10 November with a 7.45pm kick-off time.
The Young Lions, fresh from a bumper victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina in Walsall last week, are set to take part in next summer’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship for the sixth straight finals – a record unrivalled anywhere in Europe.
The U21s – currently managed by interim head coach Aidy Boothroyd – are now unbeaten in their last 14 games, and conceded just three goals across a qualifying campaign that also took in visits to Colchester, Brighton and Coventry.

Southampton is next up, five and a half years on from the Young Lions’ last visit there for a 2-0 victory over Norway thanks to goals from Danny Rose and Daniel Sturridge.

The game marks a homecoming for four members of the Under-21 squad – captain James Ward-Prowse, winger Nathan Redmond plus defenders Matt Targett and Jack Stephens play their club football for the Saints.
Italy’s Azzurrini, meanwhile, have also qualified for Euro 2017, to be played in Poland next summer. The sides last met at the 2015 European Under-21 Championship, when Luigi Di Biagio’s side ran out 3-1 winners to eliminate the Young Lions.
