More than 33,000 supporters attended last year’s Final, a record for the competition, where Arsenal overcame London rivals Chelsea thanks to a goal from Danielle Carter.
For this season, the total prize money has more than tripled – from £70,000 to £240,000. The winning club will receive £15,000, instead of £5,000 as in previous years and can receive up to £27,000 in total. The runners-up will receive £10,000.
Kelly Simmons, FA director of football participation and development, said: “It was very important to secure Wembley again for The Final so that we can continue building the momentum around the growth of the Cup and the women’s game in this country.
“Last year’s Final was another great occasion for the game and with attendances increasing year-on-year, it looks set to be another big moment for women’s football.
“It was also the right time to look at prize money and we’ve worked hard to increase this at every level of the competition which will allow clubs to reinvest back into their sides and make the incentive to progress through even higher.”
Colin Banks, head of sponsorship at SSE, said: “It’s fantastic news that The Final will be back at Wembley Stadium again next year.
“It was important to us to help make the match free for children to attend again.
“Nearly half the crowd in May were children and this helps make a wonderful family atmosphere to such a fantastic occasion.
“We hope that attending the SSE Women’s FA Cup Final will also inspire more girls to play football themselves.
“Increasing grassroots support for girls is one of the key aims of our partnership with The FA and through our SSE Girls United participation programme we hope to encourage both future players and supporters of the women’s football.”
