England Under-17 squad named for opening Euro Qualifiers

The England Under-17s squad for the opening round of Euro Qualifiers has been named.

The Young Lions will travel to Romania next week ahead of facing the hosts as well as Austria and Azerbaijan across a six-day period.

Steve Cooper’s team go into the qualifying round on the back of beating Croatia, Greece and Germany to win the Croatia Cup earlier this month.

They now kick-off their qualifying campaign for the 2017 European U17 Championships, the finals of which take place next May, also in Croatia.

Cooper retains the majority of the squad that represented the Three Lions last month, including all seven of the goal-scorers from the 8-1 victory over Germany.

The Young Lions sit in Group 6 of the qualifying round, and will kick-off their campaign against Azerbaijan in Buftea on Tuesday 25 October at 5pm (BST).

Next up are hosts Romania, at the same venue, two days later on Thursday 27 October (kick-off: 1pm BST).

England’s group-stage fixtures conclude on Sunday 30 October as they face Austria in Voluntari. A top-two place will secure a spot in the elite qualifiers, while the five best third-placed teams from the 12 groups will also progress.
