St. George’s Park has been shortlisted for ‘Best Elite Sport Venue or Facility’ at the international Sports Technology Awards 2017.

The award recognises sites for their use of new technologies or their delivery of technology-inspired innovations to support the world of elite sport.

The contenders were selected by 36 industry-leading judges from brands such as Team Sky, PGA Tour and the Discovery Channel.

St. George’s Park faces competition from venues including Lord's Cricket Ground, Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium, Sacramento Kings’ Golden 1 Centre, San Jose Earthquakes’ Avaya Stadium and Topgolf at the MGM Grand Las Vegas.

Holly Murdoch, general manager at St. George’s Park, said: “The vision behind St. George’s Park was to create a world-class venue that fosters and drives the future of elite football and sport through innovation.

“Since launching we’ve not only become the home of England’s 24 national teams, but have also hosted some of the world’s finest sides including Australia’s rugby league team, FC Barcelona and Monaco.

“We have consistently attracted elite groups and individuals due to our unique offering, and a fundamental part of this is our technology.”

Now approaching its fifth birthday, St. George’s Park brings together practical technologies that aim to enhance learning, training and performance.

Key features at the 330-acre site include an under-water treadmill, a NASA-technology driven Anti-Gravity Treadmill, an altitude training chamber, a 60-metre sprint track with under-floor sensors to track gait and speed and the same innovative grass pitch as Wembley Stadium.

The ceremony is set to take place at the Roundhouse Camden on 4 May, a Grade II listed venue well known for hosting a collection of arts and music events and will be hosted by Mark Chapman, anchor to the BBC’s Match of the Day 2.
