FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division champions Tottenham Hotspur suffered the disappointment of being condemned to their second defeat on the bounce at Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs, who will take on Northern Division winners Blackburn Rovers in the WPL play-off at the Valley on May 28 for the right to seal promotion to the FA Women’s Super League, suffered a 4-0 loss at the CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence in Caerphilly.
An Eartha Pond own goal got the ball rolling for Cardiff and further goals from Cori Williams, Emily Allen and Chloe Chivers won the day for the Bluebirds.
Elsewhere, second-placed Coventry United won 1-0 at Lewes, Stephanie Smith getting the only goal of the game, while C & K Basildon beat Queens Park Rangers 4-1.
Zoe Rushen, who was later sent off, and Hannah Porter put Basildon 2-0 up and after Jenny Critchley reduced the deficit, Anglea Addison and Jay Blackie ensured that the visitors took all three points.
It rained goals as Crystal Palace thrashed Portsmouth 7-0, with Rosie Paye and Gemma Bryan helping themselves to braces while Roschelle Shakes, Ellie Bailes and Darcey Charlesworth, with her first senior goal for Palace, all got in on the act.
In the Northern Division, Kate Asher and Jamilla Palmer scored as Stoke City beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1, Trina Greaves with the Baggies’ consolation effort.
Meanwhile, Leicester City ran out 3-1 winners over Derby County, with Sophie Domingo’s brace adding to a Rosie Axton free-kick, the Ewes getting on the scoresheet through Mel Johnson.
