Framlingham Town recorded their first-ever Emirates FA Cup victory as they booked a place in the Preliminary Round with a 3-1 victory over Wadham Lodge.
The Castlemen have entered the competition for the first time in their 130-year history this season and following a 0-0 draw against Wadham Lodge at the first time of asking last weekend, they can now look forward to welcoming Mildenhall Town to Badingham Road after coming through the Extra Preliminary Round replay on Wednesday evening.
Simon Poacher was the hero for the visitors as he grabbed the opening goal of the game within ten minutes and then notched his second just after the break, directly from a corner.
Framlingham winger Jake Taylor then added a third with a superb solo run shortly after, and even a late consolation for the hosts couldn’t dampen the Castlemen’s celebrations.
Meanwhile, Consett came from behind to beat Bishop Auckland 5-2 in another high-scoring thriller.
The sides had drawn 3-3 in the original fixture and Bishop Auckland wasted no time racing into a 2-0 lead in the replay – a 25-yard Michael Hoganson free-kick and Alex Francis’ close-range prod doing the damage early in the first half.
But Consett were 3-2 ahead by the break as Michael Sweet converted at the third time of asking and Micky Mackay notched a double.
And the Steelmen sealed a tie with Heaton Stannington in the Preliminary Round by pulling away after the break – Shaun Ryder finding the bottom corner and Sweet clinically finishing to complete the scoring.
Elsewhere, Shaftesbury Town needed extra-time to edge past Exmouth Town 2-1 as Danny Finnegan got on the end of a cross to finish from close-range in the additional 30 minutes.
Quorn earned their first Emirates FA Cup win in three years as they downed Retford United 3-0 – Nathan Dale, Dom Brennan and Amarvir Sindhu with the goals – while midfielder Craig Gott’s deflected 25-yard effort saw Marske United past North Shields 1-0.
And Ed Butcher grabbed the only goal of the game at St Mary’s Field, collecting the ball on the edge of the area before firing into the bottom corner, as Bridport edged out ten-man AFC St Austell – Liam Eddy the man to see red.
