The Emirates FA Cup travelled to Marlow Football Club on Wednesday as the Buckinghamshire outfit prepare to take on Beaconsfield Town in the first round qualifying.
Marlow has a long association with the competition and they hold a unique place in its history books, being the only English team to have applied to enter every year since the Cup’s inception in 1871.
Formed in 1870, Marlow was one of 15 clubs to compete in the inaugural FA Cup competition.
Now playing in the Southern League South East Division under manager Mark Bartley, the club has applied to enter the competition every year since, although their application was not accepted for the 1910-11 season as it arrived past the advertised deadline.
Marlow chairman Terry Staines said: “The first game I played for Marlow was in The FA Cup.
“Having the trophy here has made the community really get behind the team and I think has made us all the more determined to get through to the next round of the competition on Saturday.”
The Emirates FA Cup continues this weekend, with 116 first round qualifying ties being played up and down the country.
Winners will receive £3,000 in prize money and a place in the second round qualifying.
Andy Ambler, The FA’s director of professional game relations, said: “This season’s Emirates FA Cup saw 737 clubs, each with its own unique tale to tell, enter the competition.
“Marlow FC’s long-standing association with the Cup is one of countless stories which make the competition’s history so rich.
“We wish all clubs competing in the first round qualifying this weekend the very best of luck and look forward to hearing what new stories this round brings.”
