Jodie Redgrave scored all four goals, including a stoppage time winner, as Brighouse Town defeated Long Eaton United in a 4-3 SSE Women’s FA Cup thriller at Grange Park.
The striker showed exactly the form that had seen her named Town’s best player of 2016, opening up her account within 15 minutes and doubling the tally five minutes later on the way to the third round.
Long Eaton fought back, and in valiant style too, scoring three times without reply before Redgrave completed her hat-trick midway through the second half.
And she was not done there, breaking United hearts with the last effort of the game, their third one-goal victory of the competition.
Heartbreak proved a common second-round theme as C&K Basildon were dumped out by Keynsham Town, the last WPL South West Division One side standing.
Cristina Vega, Geovana Alves and Justine Lorton all found the net in the 3-1 win, giving them a chance of facing an FA WSL 2 side in the next round.
Elsewhere, Derby County required extra-time to get past a resilient Sheffield United, with Camilla Newton getting the decisive goal for the Ewe Rams in a 3-2 win.
FA WPL Northern Division One outfit Liverpool Marshall Feds shocked Northern Premier side Newcastle United 1-0, while Middlesbrough are also out after Leicester City won 2-1 in extra-time, in the highest-profile tie of the round.
Kit Graham’s hat-trick marked a scintillating afternoon for Charlton Athletic, with her third a brilliant header from a corner to complete a 5-0 win over Portsmouth.
Ella Toone’s wonderful free-kick ensured Blackburn Rovers overcame Hull City by the same scoreline.
It was also a good day for West Bromwich Albion and Hazzana Parnell, marking her return to the club with a brace in a 4-0 win over Radcliffe Olympic – a familiar scoreline, by which Cambridge United defeated Southampton, continuing the form that has seen them concede just one goal in four SSE Women’s FA Cup ties.
Nottingham Forest overcame Wolves 4-0, as did Coventry City against MK Dons.
And Tottenham Hotspur and AFC Wimbledon both secured 3-0 wins in their matches, while Lewes overcame Cardiff City 2-0.
