There is always an extra level of spice whenever two local rivals meet in a cup competition.
And Bromley manager Neil Smith believes the visit of Welling United in The Buildbase FA Trophy this weekend will be a huge occasion.
Bromley face managerless Welling in the second round of the competition at Hayes Lane, with Smith's men looking for their first victory in any competition in 2017.
Wings boss Jamie Day recently left for a role at League Two outfit Gillingham, with Tristan Lewis and Harry Wheeler taking joint temporary charge of the first team.
“It is a big game, we are very excited about it,” said Smith.
“It is one we always believe we can do well in – Welling is a local game and a huge occasion.
“I don’t think there needs to be any more spice but anything that adds to it and makes it a cracking game on paper is great because there are so many people across the two clubs that know each other.
“There are players who helped the club to get into the National League, who now play for Welling.”
Bromley won four games and drew one in all competitions in December, but have lost to Sutton United and Forest Green Rovers since the turn of the year.
And the Ravens boss admits he is desperate to get his side back to winning ways against their Kentish rivals.
“The great thing about football is that if you don’t play well one week then you get the chance to put things right the next,” added Smith.
“December is a busy month but I don’t think that was the cause [of our dip in form].
“I have kept largely the same team for a few games on the trot – maybe it was one too many and you are always looking back to see how you can correct things.”
“If I play non-League football I want to get to the highest place I can and getting to The FA Trophy Final at Wembley would be amazing.”
Buildbase FA Trophy History
If Bromley triumph on Saturday, they will match their furthest foray into the competition. That came in the 2012-13 season, when they lost in the last 16 to local rivals Dartford. Welling’s best finish, meanwhile, came in 2006-07, where they lost 4-1 to Grays Athletic at the quarter-final stage.
Did you know?
Steve Finnan, Harry Arter, Andy Townsend and Carl Jenkinson have all had spells at Welling United, while Reading winger Garath McCleary is a former Bromley man. Former Crystal Palace, Millwall and Derby County winger David Martin is currently on Bromley's books, as is ex-Lions striker Ben May.
One to watch
Bromley-born frontman Blair Turgott was once on West Ham United’s books and scored for England in an U17 World Cup in Mexico, and is a potent threat for his hometown club, who he joined in the summer. He has 12 goals in 30 appearances for Smith’s side this season.
The prize
The winner will pick up a cheque for £6,000 and bag a spot in Monday’s third round draw, to be conducted at Wembley Stadium and available to watch live via Periscope from the @FA Twitter account from 10.30am.
