There will be a new name on The Buildbase FA Vase come May, after holders Morpeth Town were beaten 4-0 by South Shields in their rearranged fourth round clash on Wednesday evening.
In the original tie on Saturday, Morpeth looked to be sailing into the next round as they led 4-2 against ten-man Shields, but a floodlight failure caused the game to be abandoned with eight minutes remaining.
And South Shields made the most of their second chance as they triumphed at Morpeth's Craik Park, with their ground of Mariners Park unable to host the game with the floodlight generator unable to be fixed in time.
Town had started the game brightly but the Mariners made the most of their chances with Gavin Cogdon finding the top corner from 12 yards, before David Foley doubled their lead with a calm finish.
The visitors had a chance to reduce the arrears on 14 minutes but Sean Taylor blasted a penalty over the bar, and on the stroke of half time a sublime Cogdon chip all but settled the result.
But there was still time for Foley to grab a second in the 82nd minute, picking out the top corner to send Lee Picton’s men into the fifth round.
