And with a record 54 nations awaiting their fate, England know they are in Pot 1 of the draw alongside the top seeded teams based on UEFA’s co-efficient ranking system.

There will be nine groups containing six nations with all of the eventual group winners automatically qualifying for the Finals in the summer of 2019.

A further two nations will also qualify via play-off games between the four best runners-up to complete the line-up of 12 nations in the Finals.

U21s’ interim head coach Aidy Boothroyd will be in Nyon for the draw, after overseeing England’s qualification for this year’s Finals in Poland.

The squad for 2019 can be drawn from players born on or after 1 January 1996, so those capped recently at U21 level such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Demarai Gray, Dominic Solanke, Angus Gunn, Ben Chilwell, Brendan Galloway, Mason Holgate and Tammy Abraham can all feature again whilst the squad who will play in the U20 World Cup this summer will also be eligible.

England have a proud record in Euro U21 qualifying, having successfully reached the Finals of the last six tournaments, the only nation to have done so.

You can watch the draw live, via UEFA.com from 8am GMT on Thursday morning.
