Bromsgrove Sporting’s brilliant Buildbase FA Vase run continued as they dispatched higher-level opposition in the form of Bristol Manor Farm 2-1 to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Jason Cowley’s double did the damage as a side who entered at the first round qualifying stage moved just two victories away from Wembley.
Just a minute before half-time Cowley volleyed the Midland League Division One outfit ahead after a pinpoint Aaron Roberts cross and made it 2-0 on 54 minutes by slotting home Ahmed Ali’s cutback.
Western League Premier outfit Manor Farm narrowed the deficit with 10 minutes remaining as Troy Simpson slammed in from close-range and the striker thought he had equalised on 85 minutes, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.
And the Rouslers, who were only formed in 2009, held on for a famous triumph.
The only other 10-tier side in action on Saturday, Hinckley AFC, were narrowly denied a last-eight spot after going down 4-3 after extra time in a thriller against Buckland Athletic.
Sam Agar grabbed a hat-trick as Hinckley led 2-0 and 3-2 but it was ultimately in vain as Lloyd Gardner’s double and a Gavin Hammon strike forced extra time before Richard Groves scuffed home in the additional 30 minutes to send Buckland through.
They will be joined by Sporting Khalsa who dispatched Ely City 3-0 away from home and also Cleethorpes Town, after their impressive 3-2 win over Atherton Collieries.
A Dean Rathbone treble helped Coleshill Town to a 6-3 triumph at Crowborough Athletic and it took extra time before Newport Pagnell Town saw off Sunderland RCA 3-2 – Dom Lawless grabbing the winner.
And the team who are perhaps the tournament favourites, South Shields, are still going strong after travelling to Team Solent and emerging with a 5-2 victory.
The side lying second in Northern League Division One, who beat FA Vase holders Morpeth Town in the last round, are in the quarter-finals for the first time since 1976.
Goals from Alex Nicholson, David Foley, Carl Finnigan and ex-Sunderland star Julio Arca, as well as an Ellis White own goal, were enough for the Mariners.
