The latest FA Council meeting took place on 26 October 2017.
The main highlights were as follows:
Council membership
Graeme Dell has joined the Council as the representative for Futsal and small-sided football.
Danielle Carter, a current player with Arsenal and England, has also joined the Council, representing BAME football communities.
Independent non-executive board director appointment
The Council approved the appointment of Kate Tinsley as a new independent non-executive director of The FA.
Kate is currently the chief executive officer of the Buildbase Group, a division of Grafton Group PLC with management responsibility in both the UK and Belgium. Prior to this Kate, served in senior finance roles at Saint Gobain, BSS PLC and Grafton Group PLC before moving into general management.
As an FA qualified coach, Kate is passionate about football and motivated by her desire to ensure that football is For All. This includes making sure that there are equal opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to play and enjoy football at all levels of the game.
Kate is appointed on an initial three-year term and is able to serve for a maximum of three terms.
DCMS Select Committee hearing
The Chairman delivered a speech to the Council which reflected on recent events, culminating in The FA being called before the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee on 18 October 2017. The speech is available here.
A number of Council members took the opportunity to offer their perspectives on the events and the Council agreed a proposal that the Board explore options to make The FA a simpler, more focussed and inclusive organisation and present these back at the January Council meeting.
FA Regulations
The Council approved changes to the regulations for the establishment and operation of the women’s football pyramid and Girls’ Football, the effect of which will be to implement a selection process for the participation of teams in the new steps 1 and 2 competition structure from next season. There were also changes to the disciplinary regulations for the EFL Trophy competition.
The next Council meeting will take place on 17 January 2018.
