Arguably the most dramatic came at Meadow Park, where a last-minute winner handed Runcorn Linnets a 2-1 success over Sunderland Ryhope Community.
After trailing at half time, Danny O’Brien’s second-half penalty restored parity for the Linnets before Mark Houghton tapped in during added time to take Runcorn into the third round for the first time in nine years.
Horndean will play in the third round for just the second time as they edged out plucky Royal Wootton Bassett by 3-2.
Antonio Gerrish put the visitors into the lead with a 30-yard piledriver but red cards for Chris Jackson and Sam Collier reduced the underdogs to nine men.
Jack Maloney equalised for the Deans before Ash Howes put the hosts in front shortly after the break.
The nine men battled bravely and Lewis Waldon levelled things up on the hour mark but the home side made their extra men count with 20 minutes to go as Josh Maloney scored the decisive goal to send Horndean through.
Scott McGowan’s brace helped 1874 Northwich to a convincing win over Tow Law Town as they booked a date with Ashton Athletic in the next round.
The striker’s brace, along with efforts from Adam Whitlock, Jake Parker and Kazim Waite-Jackson, helped the hosts to a resounding 5-1 victory.
Team Solent made light work of Tavistock AFC as the Wessex League side advanced.
Goals from Hashim Kasimu and Silvano Obeng either side of half-time ensured the Southampton Solent University side are dreaming of a long cup run.
Elsewhere, there were victories for Chichester City over Deal Town, the former running out 3-0 winners, and Sevenoaks Town made it to the third round for the first time with a 2-1 triumph over Haywards Heath.
