To say it’s been a productive month for Harry Kane would be an understatement.
The England and Tottenham Hotspur striker has been in red hot form with both club and country during September and he’s now aiming to keep that form going into the new month.
It all started with his brace against Malta for the Three Lions last month, before returning to Spurs and firing eleven goals in six games to prompt comparisons with some of the best players in the world.
Kane isn’t entertaining that sort of speculation though, maintaining the same focus and determination to improve which has seen him consistently scoring goals for England since his early days with the U17s and through to the seniors.
“It’s been a good month for me, starting obviously last time with England when it was nice to get a couple of goals to kick-start the calendar month,” he told TheFA.com.
“Hopefully I can do the same again this month, that’s all I try to do, help the team out by scoring goals and just keep improving.
“If I can keep getting better every day and every week, that’s the main thing and what I want to keep doing really.”
Kane’s rise to prominence has been well documented and the 24-year-old still scratches his head when reminded that it’s just over three years ago that he was part of Gareth Southgate’s U21s squad and patiently waiting for a chance in the starting line-up with Saido Berahino and Danny Ings for competition.
With Lithuania in opposition for the Three Lions on Sunday in the final World Cup qualifier, it’s ironic that Kane scored a crucial winner for the U21s in September 2014 against the same opposition in Kaunas.
Within a matter of weeks, he’d forced his way into the Spurs line-up and a goal-trail began which is still running to this day.
