England got their CP World Championship campaign off to a high-tempo start with an 11-0 victory over Japan on Monday.
The Three Lions kicked-off the campaign’s group stage in Argentina in emphatic style, with a hat-trick from David Porcher, a brace from Dale Smith and strikes from Matt Crossen, Oli Nugent, James Blackwell and George Fletcher adding to two Japanese own-goals to complete the scoring.
Played at a blustery Juan G. Funes Stadium at the foot of the San Luis mountains, England moved the ball in a slick and efficient way to find themselves 6-0 up at half time.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with head coach Andy Smith able to play eleven of his 14 man squad ahead of two more group games to come this week.
“I am delighted with the start, the three debutants played well, particularly David Porcher and Dale Smith who scored five goals between them,” said Smith after the game.
“This gives us a wonderful platform for the remaining group games and Venezuela on Wednesday.”
The next game with Venezuela will kick-off at 2pm BST on Wednesday and then the final group match with the Netherlands takes place on Friday 15 September.
