Head coach Mo Marley says England are on an upward curve as they prepare to take on the Netherlands in the quarter finals of the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup.
The Young Lionesses finished top of Group B, rounding matters off with a resounding 6-1 dismissal of Mexico on Sunday.
They lost 2-0 to the Netherlands at last year’s U19 Euros, but Marley believes her side are in a much better position than they were 12 months ago.
She said: “The girls are very confident no matter who they come up against, as long as we can do what we do well, then we are excited about whoever we face.
“We know we are a stronger team than we were last year so we are up for it, we are ready.
“Our motto is that we get better with every game and I think our performances in the last three games have been outstanding.
“If we can keep that progression going and improve ourselves on a day-by-day basis. I keep saying it. It’s not about who we play, it’s about what we do.”
England will be competing in the last eight of the World Cup for the first time since 2008, but having scored more goals (10) than any other team in the group stage, Marley believes her side have nothing to fear ahead of their quarter final clash.
She explained: “I think every team would fear playing against us because we’ve got talent right the way through the side, in every single area. We have some of the best players, I believe, at this age group.
“We know in quarter finals, you are gonna be up against talented players, and it’s up to us to maximise what we can do to exploit the oppositions weaknesses.”
