Paul Simpson has named his England Men's U20 squad for two internationals next month.
England will host Switzerland at St. George’s Park in an invite-only fixture on Thursday 6 September, before facing Netherlands away at KVV Quick Boys, Katwijk on Monday 10 September.
Simpson has selected six players who were part of the U21s Toulon Tournament-winning side this summer, while the squad also contains eight of the England team that took part in the UEFA European U19 Championship finals.
Simpson said: “We’ve got a bit of a mixed squad as it covers two age bands, so it’s the first time this group will have been together.
“It’s an opportunity for the players on the fringes of the Under-21s to stay involved in international football and for our younger players to develop.
“We expect two tough games against Switzerland and the Netherlands, they’ll have a similar mix of age bands. We want to give our players the chance to play against the best teams in Europe and show they are ready to move up.
“Across England teams we’ve shown over the past 18 months that there is a definite pathway to progress all the way up to the seniors.
“We want to develop this group with a view for them to break into the U21s, while following on from the success that last year’s U20s and at least maintain our position of second in the European elite league.”
The Young Lions will play two further home games this autumn. First up, they face Italy at AFC Fylde’s Mill Farm Stadium on Thursday 11 October (7pm KO).
They will then take on Germany at the Jobserve Community Stadium in Colchester on Monday 19 November (7pm KO).
Tickets for both fixtures are on sale now, priced £3 for adults and £1 for children.
