Young Lions end Algarve Tournament with a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands on Tuesday

England's Xavier Amaechi celebrates scoring the opener against the Netherlands

England U17s rounded-off the Algarve Tournament with a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands on Tuesday.

It was the third and final game of the competition for Steve Cooper’s squad, who lost to hosts Portugal in their opener last week before being held to a draw by Germany on Sunday.

But goals from Arsenal duo Xavier Amaechi and Tyreece John-Jules were enough to ensure the Young Lions head home with a win under their belts.

The opener came when Bobby Duncan broke into the box and saw his shot bounce back off the post, straight into the path of Amaechi who provided the finish.

And the second goal came when the Dutch keeper Daan Reiziger was caught in possession in his own area after trying to play-out from a goal-kick with England's high-press putting him under pressure before John-Jules was on hand to nick the ball off him and score.

Cooper’s squad were in the Algarve for the annual tournament, as they continue their preparations for this summer’s UEFA European U17 Championship Finals in England.
