Marieanne Spacey-Cale will be leaving The FA to join Southampton FC as their head of girls and women’s football technical department.
During her 11 years at The FA, Spacey was part of the Lionesses' coaching staff when England finished third at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
And as U23s head coach, she led the team to Nordic Tournament success last year and also graduated from the Pro Licence course.
In her most recent role as ‘England Women’s player and coach developer’, Spacey helped to develop both female coaches and coaches working in the women’s game, delivering bespoke courses and mentoring.
Spacey's new role will see her based at Southampton's Staplewood Campus on a full-time basis and responsible for managing all girls and women’s coaching and performance staff, as well as overseeing the development of the club's highly successful RTC programme.
“I have had some fantastic experiences during my time at The FA and have worked with people who are really committed to not just the growth of the women’s game but also some great people developing coaches in all formats of the game," said Spacey, who also played for England 91 times and scored 28 goals.
“I am now really looking forward to being part of Southampton FC and expanding their women’s programme.”
Baroness Sue Campbell, The FA’s head of women’s football, added: “I’d like to thank Marieanne for her contribution to The FA and England, as a player, coach and in her most recent role as England Women’s player and coach developer.
"Her record and impact on the women’s and girls’ game speaks for itself and Southampton FC have a fine addition to their new department in what is an exciting time for their club.
"On behalf of everyone at The FA, I would like to wish Marieanne well – she leaves behind a great legacy through her work which has had a positive impact on the female game."
