England U21s will face opposition from China, Mexico and Qatar in the annual Tournoi Maurice Revello this summer.

Aidy Boothroyd’s squad will head to Toulon in May looking to lift the title for a third successive year following victories in 2017 and 2016.

Tournoi Maurice Revello
  • 26 May - 9 June 2018
  • Group A: England, China, Mexico, Qatar
  • Group B: France, Korea Republic, Scotland, Togo
  • Group C: Canada, Japan, Portugal, Turkey
  • Provence, France

And they have been drawn out in group A for the competition, which is held throughout Provence in southern France.

The Young Lions will kick-off their defence of the title against China at Aubagne’s Stade de Lattre on Saturday 26 May.

They’ll be back in action three days later when Mexico are the opponents in Salon before the group fixtures are rounded off against Qatar on Friday 1 June at the Stade Parsemain in Fos-sur-Mer.

All 12 nations will then play a fourth game on 5 and 6 June to decide the final rankings or a semi-final on 6 June, before the final takes place in Martigues on Saturday 9 June.

The 2018 tournament is open to players born in 1997 and beyond, so that means some of the older members of Boothroyd’s current squad, those born in 1996, will be unavailable for this year's trip.

“It’s a brilliant tournament and a lot of very good players have been there,” said Boothroyd, who has previous experience in Toulon after coaching an U20 squad at the competition in 2015.

“We have plans and preparations in place for that tournament and going to Toulon will allow me to have a look at one or two of the players from the other groups, such as Keith Downing’s U20s or even Paul Simpson’s U19s group.

“So we’ll make sure we have a good look at our group in March and then we’ll look forward to Toulon in May.”

Last season saw Neil Dewsnip take a mixed-age group of players to Toulon, with the team going on to win the competition after a shoot-out victory over Ivory Coast in the final.

Two years ago, Gareth Southgate oversaw England's first Toulon title in 22 years when his side beat hosts France by 2-1 in the final at Avignon's Parc des Sports.

Before they head to Toulon in May, Boothroyd's squad face Romania in the Cyrille Regis International at Molineux on Saturday 24 March before hosting Ukraine in a Euro qualifier at Bramall Lane on Tuesday 27 March. Tickets for both games are on sale now priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
