England U20s are in action at Manchester City’s Academy Stadium on Tuesday evening when Portugal are in opposition.
It’s a re-match of last season’s U19 Euro Final, which saw the Young Lions win the title in Georgia and a memorable occasion for one local lad.
Isaac Buckley-Ricketts, currently on loan at Oxford United from Manchester City, was part of the U19s squad last term and has been a regular under Keith Downing again this season.
And as he’s looking forward to lining up for the Young Lions in his hometown, we caught up with him for the England programme.
It’s back to Manchester with England for this game with Portugal, so you must be looking forward to that?
It’s a weird one for me, coming back to City but not playing for City. It’s nice though, because it’s home to me. I’ve been with the club since I was 13, from back in the Platt Lane days and I’m a Manchester boy so I’ve had no shortage of ticket requests from friends and family.
Away from football, you like your fashion. How did that come about?
Yeah, it’s true. I wasn’t so much growing up but I think I’m more open to things and now, I’m really into fashion. I’m very versatile with it. Sometimes I have phases where I’m into 90s-style retro clothing. I don’t have a specific place or shop that I go to, it’s just, if I like something and I take inspiration from everywhere, then I might try it. It could be that I’m going through town and see somebody with something that’s nice and it puts clothes in my head and then I can mix and match.
What’s your typical playlist for a game?
Definitely Drake. He’s my go-to option, he’s got such a variety of songs I could play. Another one that I’m into is an American band called the Migos, it’s like rap but they sing at the same time.
Do you get to the cinema much? What’s your favourite film?
The last film I went to see was the Black Panther film. I liked it, although it was a bit over-hyped. But I’m a big Marvel film fan so I was always likely to enjoy it. My favourite actor is Denzel Washington. I just like how he is on film. It seems like he’s not acting. I loved him in the film ‘Fences’.
Finally, what app could you not live without?
It used to be SnapChat. But then they changed it with the recent update and I don’t really know how to use it. So it’s Instagram. That’s the go-to for me.
