England Women’s Under-17s’ hopes of Euro glory was brought to an abrupt end with an 8-0 semi-final defeat by holders Germany.
John Griffiths’s side can still qualify for the FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup, though, if they beat either Spain or Finland in the third-place match on Monday.
The Young Lionesses’ rhythm was disrupted when Missy Bo Kearns was forced off injured early on.
And they fell behind just moments later through an unfortunate own goal by goalkeeper Kayla Rendell.
Shekiera Martinez doubled the lead and Leonie Köster gave England a mountain to climb as early as the half-hour mark.
Martinez added a fourth just before the break and completed her hat-trick in the second half, for a tournament-record ninth goal, just after Ivana Fuso had got herself on the scoresheet.
Vanessa Fudalla made it 7-0 and Köster completed the scoring late on.
