Recent senior team debutant Beth Mead is on the shortlist

The nominees for the Vauxhall England Women’s Young Player of the Year 2018 have been revealed with Lauren Hemp, Beth Mead, Esme Morgan, Ella Toone and Keira Walsh all shortlisted.

The winner will be announced at the 20th annual FA Women’s Football Awards on Friday 1 June. The ceremony will celebrate the very best of the women’s game including grassroots, domestic and international football.

  • Lauren Hemp (U19s) was the winner of the 2017 award. The Bristol City forward has impressed ever since, netting four goals in seven games for the U19s this season.
  • Beth Mead (Seniors) has represented England from U15s through to the senior team. The Arsenal forward has flourished since moving out to the wing, earning her first full cap against Wales under new boss Phil Neville in April 2018­.
  • Esme Morgan (U19s) has enjoyed a breakthrough season, making six appearances for the U19s. She made her debut against Kazakhstan in October and captained Rehanne Skinner’s outfit to victory over France in La Manga in March.
  • Ella Toone (U19s) began her U19s career in style, scoring a brace on her debut against Kazakhstan last October. She has gone on to become a regular for the team, netting six goals in eight appearances.
  • Keira Walsh (Seniors) received her first senior call-up last November, making her debut against Kazakhstan. She was part of the senior squad that travelled to America for the SheBelieves Cup and also featured in the Lionesses’ World Cup qualifier against Wales in Southampton.

Phil Neville’s side travel to Moscow to face Russia on Friday 8 June, before a trip to Wales on Friday 31 August and then Kazakhstan on Tuesday 4 September.
