Find out how you can get involved in and support Remembrance Day through football

Tuesday 23 Oct 2018
Get involved in football-related activities around Remembrance Day

Football Remembers is the partnership between us, the Premier League, the English Football League (EFL) and the Professional Football Association (PFA) to ensure football pays tribute to the sacrifice paid by so many, as a result of conflicts.

The initiative was launched to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War and now, in 2018, we reach 100 years since the end of the Great War.

As the 2018 Armistice weekend approaches, we're working with the Premier League, EFL and PFA to pay our respects and honour the brave Armed Forces personnel.

What can you do to support Remembrance Day?

Go to England v Sweden in Rotherham on 11 November and support the Royal British Legion

Both the men’s and women’s England teams are supporting the Royal British Legion’s Thank You campaign and have been recording campaign videos to support the project. The women’s international at Rotherham on 11 November, England v Sweden, is our dedicated remembrance international this year and is being delivered with the support of the Royal British Legion.

Support the British Army in the Games of Remembrance

The British Army Game of Remembrance is a regular Remembrance fixture against the German Army. This year, the women’s game will be played at Notts County’s Meadow Lane (12pm kick-off) and the men’s game at Nottingham Forest at the City Ground (7pm kick-off), on Thursday 8 November 2018.

Schools in the local area are being encouraged to organise school trips with many activities for children including displays, music and educational opportunities being included in a youth fan zone.

Funding is available from the Army to help cover the cost of travel and a number of free tickets have been set aside for organised school trips.

Support your club in November

As always, football will commemorate Armistice Day at its fixtures; this year during matches over the weekends of 3-4 and 10-11 November. Working with the Royal British Legion (RBL), matches in the Premier League, EFL, The FA Women's Super League and Emirates FA Cup will see a special Armistice 100 commemorative coin used for the coin toss across these weekends. Matches will also be asked to hold a minute’s silence, wear black armbands and to consider adding poppy shirt logos to their shirts for the weekend.

Take part in the Royal British Legion’s Thank You Campaign

We're supporting the Royal British Legion’s Thank You campaign this year. The Royal British Legion is leading the nation in saying Thank You to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world during World War 1.

Pay tribute to the men and women who have died in wars since WWI

Take in a show: The Greater Game

Along with the EFL, the Premier League and the PFA, we're supporting The Greater Game, a theatrical production that tells the story of Clapton Orient and the men who swapped the football fields of London for the battle fields of the Somme in 1916.

The show runs from the 30 October to 25 November 2018 in Waterloo East Theatre.
