Even though Spain are ranked 12th in the world, on form they are probably sixth or seventh.
Winning the SheBelieves Cup means we are now a scalp for every other nation and Spain will be thinking no different.
The best teams in the world are the ones that win time and time again. That’s what I have told my players. The Road to France Series is not a tournament, there’s no trophy at the end of it, but I want to maintain that winning mentality.
We’ve got another massive challenge to perform on the big stage against the best teams in the world.
What pleases me more than anything about this squad is the great togetherness and the fact that every player enjoys being away with England.
These first two matches are the first time we have been together since our success at the SheBelieves Cup, which was a fantastic tournament for us.
Last year we finished runners-up when we were playing against the top three sides in the world and that was a great performance.
But this year we were more ruthless because we went one step further and won the tournament. I don’t focus so much on the fact we got our hands on the trophy, though; I look at our togetherness, our attitude and our determination to win matches. That was more pleasing than winning the gold medal.
I need to be able to trust all my players and I need to see them perform in the big games. To win a World Cup you have to have 23 players ready to play and these players proved they are ready in America. The SheBelieves Cup is a big tournament, but it’s just a stepping stone to where we want to get to.
