Jesse Lingard has hit a number of memorable goals in important matches for both club and country – and his strike against Panama at last year’s World Cup is up there with the best of them.
After playing a one-two with Raheem Sterling, the 26-year-old bent an exquisite shot into the top corner to put Gareth Southgate’s side 3-0 up against the Group G minnows and help steer the Three Lions towards their biggest-ever win at the tournament.
“It wasn’t side-foot and it wasn’t laces; it was in-between,” he said of his technique.
“I don’t feel like I hit it with a lot of power. I kind of just caressed it in.”
It’s a skill not many could pull off, but Lingard attempted to teach Lions’ Dens presenter Craig Mitch how to replicate his World Cup wonder strike at St. George’s Park:
Lingard and his England team-mates are next in action when they entertain Czech Republic in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier at Wembley Stadium on Friday 22 March.
