Isobel Christiansen has scored six goals in 31 England internationals

Isobel Christiansen has undergone successful surgery on an ankle injury sustained in England’s SheBelieves Cup win over Japan on Tuesday.

Following further assessment, the 27-year-old had an operation on Friday afternoon.

Christiansen will now begin a rehabilitation programme as she aims to be fit for this summer’s World Cup finals.

Head coach Phil Neville said: “We were delighted to hear from Izzy yesterday and that her operation went well.

“We are all wishing her a speedy recovery and will be supporting her in every way we can over her rehabilitation period.”

The Lionesses have scheduled four home matches in the build-up to France 2019.

First up is Canada at Manchester City’s Academy Stadium on Friday 5 April. Then it’s Spain in Swindon four days later.

Euro 2017 runners-up Denmark will visit Banks’s Stadium in Walsall on Saturday 25 May before New Zealand play their part in England’s World Cup send-off in Brighton on Saturday 1 June.

Tickets for all four matches are on sale now with children able to attend for just £1.
