England’s Blind Para Lions lost to an outstanding Argentina side in their second group game at the World Grand Prix in Tokyo.
Ranked number two in the world, Argentina showed what a real force they have become and restricted England to a few half chances.
Despite a marvellous performance from goalkeeper Dylan Malpas, Maximiliano Espinillo scored in the 32nd minute and with the last kick of the game to leave England needing to beat Thailand in their final game on Thursday to guarantee a spot in the semi-finals.
After the game, para football performance manager Jeff Davis said: “We came up against a very strong Argentina line up, who have stepped up from the team we played in last year’s WGP final.
“The England squad is in transition after losing some senior players to retirement or illness, but it is pleasing that Jon Pugh has been able to give match time to the younger players which can only help and accelerate their learning and development.
“Special mention must be given to Dylan Malpas who was incredible in goal and made five outstanding saves.
“Our destiny is in our own hands and if we beat Thailand tomorrow, we are guaranteed a place in the semi-finals”.
