England’s blind Para Lions bounced back to seal their place in the semi-final of the World Grand Prix, with a 1-0 victory over Thailand.
Jon Pugh’s side knew they needed a win following their defeat to Argentina on Wednesday and they faced a hard-fought game to reach the last four and a match with Japan.
It took a solo goal from Dan English, his fourth of the tournament, in the 18th minute to overcome a stubborn Thai team in what was the first ever meeting of the two nations.
But good performances from Dylan Malpas and English, ably supported by Darren Harris, gave England just the advantage needed.
“We are very pleased to qualify from the group stages, beating two class teams and now face the host nation in front of a packed house on Saturday,” said head coach Pugh.
“This is going to be invaluable experience the players and can only help with their development.”
