England's Blind team picked up a silver medal at the IBSA World Grand Prix in Japan on Sunday, after losing to Argentina in the Final.
The Para Lions enjoyed a strong campaign at the tournament in Tokyo, which included impressive wins over Turkey, Thailand and hosts Japan to reach the final against an Argentine outfit who had already beaten them in the group stages.
And the outcome was the same again, as the assured South Americans completed a 2-0 victory over a transitional young England side which contained three players under the age of 21.
A goal in each half from Maximillian Espinolla, with Argentina restricting the Blind Para Lions to a minimum of half chances, England struggled to get a foothold in the game and found it difficult to breakdown a strong Argentina defence.
There was also an honour for Dan English, who was voted tournament MVP and finished joint top scorer with six goals.
On winning the silver medal, head coach Jon Pugh commented: “I am very pleased with our performances this week and although we are obviously disappointed with today’s result it does put us in a good position for the European Championship in September.
Speaking after the game, England's para performance manager Jeff Davis added: "Jon Pugh marshalled the players well and if you would have offered a silver medal at the beginning of the tournament, we would have taken it.
"We take nothing away from Argentina they were the better side and restricted us to only half chances."
