The 2019-20 Emirates FA Cup Final will take place on Saturday 23 May 2020

The Emirates FA Cup first round proper gets under way on Friday night with a first-ever meeting in the competition between Dulwich Hamlet and Carlisle United.

There are 27 ties on Saturday and 10 on Sunday with Portsmouth’s trip to Harrogate Town on Monday night rounding off proceedings.

And here are some key facts from each of the weekend’s ties:

Friday 8 November

Dulwich Hamlet v Carlisle United

  • This will be the first FA Cup meeting between Dulwich Hamlet and Carlisle United.
  • Dulwich Hamlet have never won an FA Cup proper tie (P16 W0 D2 L14), with this their first appearance in the competition since 1998 (0-1 vs Southport).
  • Carlisle have won their last four FA Cup first round ties, last going out at this stage against Peterborough in 2014-15.
  • Carlisle haven’t lost an FA Cup tie against non-league opponents since October 1999 (1-2 vs Ilkeston Town), winning 10 and drawing three since.

Saturday 9 November

Sunderland v Gillingham

  • Sunderland are unbeaten in their last nine games against Gillingham (W7 D2), winning both league games home and away last season.
  • Sunderland have been eliminated from five of their last six FA Cup ties, although they did progress from the first round last season, winning 2-1 against Port Vale.
  • Gillingham have failed to progress from five of their last six FA Cup ties against league opposition, however they did win against Premier League side Cardiff City in the third round last season.

Accrington Stanley v Crewe Alexandra  

  • Accrington Stanley have won their last four games against Crewe Alexandra, with those four victories coming in League Two during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaigns.
  • The first-ever meeting between Accrington Stanley and Crewe came in December 1992 in this competition, the Railwaymen winning 6-1 in the second round.
  • Accrington Stanley have never lost an FA Cup tie against lower league opposition (W5 D2), however those two draws came in the first round against Guiseley in November 2017, losing on penalties after a replay.
  • Crewe have only progressed from one of their last six FA Cup first round ties, although that victory did come against third-tier side Rotherham in November 2017.

AFC Wimbledon v Doncaster Rovers

  • AFC Wimbledon have won their two home encounters against Doncaster, winning 2-0 in August 2017 and March 2019, both coming in League One matches.
  • Doncaster have failed to score in three of their four games against AFC Wimbledon, the only exception being a 2-1 victory at home in November 2018.
  • AFC Wimbledon embarked on their best ever FA Cup run last season, making it into the fifth round before being defeated by Millwall. The Dons have made the second round in each of their last three seasons.
  • After losing their first four FA Cup ties away to London clubs, Doncaster have won each of their last three, keeping clean sheets in each contest.

Blackpool v Morecambe

  • After losing their first two games against Morecambe, Blackpool have won the last two, including a 5-1 victory in an EFL Trophy match in September.
  • Blackpool have progressed from four of their last five FA Cup ties against lower-league opponents, however only one of those fixtures came against Football League opposition, a 3-2 victory against Exeter in November 2018.
  • In Morecambe’s 23 FA Cup ties against sides from a higher division, the Shrimps have only progressed twice (December 2000 v Cambridge, November 2002 v Chesterfield); being eliminated each of the last 10 times.

Bolton Wanderers v Plymouth Argyle

  • Bolton and Plymouth have met once previously in the FA Cup, Bolton winning 4-1 on the road in January 1935, a campaign in which they reached the semi-final stage.
  • This is only Bolton’s second FA Cup first round match since 1993-94, when they defeated Grimsby Town 1-0 at home in November 2016. The Trotters have progressed from each of their last eight FA Cup ties against lower league opposition.
  • Plymouth have failed to progress from their last eight FA Cup ties against higher-league opponents, however they did take Liverpool to a replay in January 2017, eventually losing 1-0 at home.

Cambridge United v Exeter City

  • This is the third time Cambridge and Exeter have met in the FA Cup, all of them in the first round. Cambridge progressed on both previous occasions (1990-91 and 1986-87 after a replay).
  • Cambridge were eliminated at this stage of the FA Cup by non-league Guiseley last season, having reached the second round of the competition in each of the previous five campaigns.
  • Exeter have only reached the second round of the FA Cup twice in the last nine seasons (2015-16 and 2017-18).

Carshalton Athletic v Boston United

  • This will be the first FA Cup meeting between Carshalton Athletic and Boston United.
  • Carshalton Athletic are appearing in the FA Cup first round for the sixth time in their history, and first since 1997-98 when they lost to Stevenage. They’ve only reached round two once before (1982-83).
  • Boston United are appearing in the FA Cup for the first time since 2006-07, when they lost 0-4 to Bournemouth in the first round.
  • Boston United have won their last two FA Cup ties against non-league sides, both in the 2004-05 campaign. However, they were a Football League side at the time, playing in League Two.

Cheltenham Town v Swindon Town

  • Cheltenham won their only previous FA Cup meeting with Swindon, winning 5-0 at this stage in 2014-15.
  • Cheltenham are looking to reach the second round of the FA Cup in consecutive seasons for the first time since a run of three between 2010-11 and 2012-13.
  • Swindon have progressed past this stage of the FA Cup in each of the last two seasons, having failed to reach round two in any of the previous five campaigns.

Colchester United v Coventry City

  • This will be just the second time Colchester and Coventry have met in the FA Cup, with Colchester winning a fourth round replay 3-1 in February 2004.
  • Colchester have lost seven of their last eight FA Cup ties against sides from a higher division, winning the other against Charlton in January 2016.
  • Coventry have only kept one clean sheet in their last 13 away games in the FA Cup, beating MK Dons 1-0 in January 2018.

Crawley Town v Scunthorpe United

  • Scunthorpe have never won away at Crawley in competitive meetings (D1 L1), though this is their first such meeting in the FA Cup.
  • Crawley have been knocked out of the FA Cup in the first round in each of the last five seasons, last reaching the second round in 2013-14.
  • Scunthorpe have only been eliminated at this stage of the FA Cup in one of the last five campaigns, losing 1-3 at Charlton in 2016-17.

Ebbsfleet United v Notts County

  • This will be the third FA Cup tie between Ebbsfleet United and Notts County, the Magpies winning 2-1 in the first round in December 2000 and 2-1 in the second round in December 2003.
  • Ebbsfleet United haven’t won an FA Cup first round tie since November 2003, defeating fellow non-league outfit Chester City 1-0 on the road.
  • Notts County have been knocked out in the first round of the FA Cup in four of the last six campaigns.
  • Notts County have progressed from five of their last six FA Cup ties against non-league opposition, losing only against Salford City in November 2015 in this run. This is the Magpies’ first game in the competition as a non-league side since the creation of the Football League (excluding 1945-46 when league play was suspended).

Forest Green Rovers v Billericay Town

  • This will be the first FA Cup meeting between Forest Green Rovers and Billericay Town.
  • Forest Green have only lost one of their seven FA Cup ties against non-league opponents (W5 D1), though this is only their second such match as a Football League side (1-0 vs Macclesfield in November 2017).
  • Billericay Town are competing in the FA Cup for the sixth time, and third season in a row. However, they’ve never made it past the first round in the competition.
  • Billericay Town have only faced Football League opposition once before in the FA Cup, losing 1-2 against Swansea City in November 2007.

Grimsby Town v Newport County

  • Grimsby and Newport will be facing each other in a cup competition for the first time, with their first ever meeting coming in the league in March 1921.
  • Last season Grimsby win an FA Cup first round match for the first time since November 2015. The Mariners reached the third round before being knocked out by Crystal Palace.
  • Newport County have progressed in each of their last four FA Cup first round ties. Last season they reached the fifth round for just the second time in their history, last doing so in 1948-49.

Ipswich Town v Lincoln City

  • Ipswich and Lincoln have faced each other once before in the FA Cup, Lincoln winning a third round replay after an initial 2-2 draw in 2017.
  • After being relegated to League One last season, Ipswich Town will be entering at the FA Cup first round stage for the first time since 1956-57.
  • Lincoln have lost seven of their last nine FA Cup away trips (W1 D1), their only victory coming against Premier League side Burnley, winning 1-0 in February 2017.

Maidenhead United v Rotherham United

  • Maidenhead United have reached the FA Cup first round on 10 previous occasions.
  • Rotherham have been eliminated from three of their last five FA Cup ties against non-league opponents, losing in a replay 2007, 2009 and 2010.
  • Maidenhead are in the FA Cup first round for the third successive season. The Magpies lost 4-0 at home to League One side Portsmouth last season.

Maidstone United v Torquay United

  • This will be the second FA Cup meeting between Maidstone United and Torquay United in the FA Cup, the Stones winning 4-1 at home in a first round match in November 1990.
  • Maidstone have won their last five non-league encounters against Torquay, including a 4-0 Buildbase FA Trophy win in December 2017.
  • Maidstone United have reached the FA Cup first round in every campaign since 2014-15; the most of any non-league outfit.
  • Since dropping out of the Football League in 2013-14, Torquay are making their second appearance in the FA Cup first round proper, last doing so last season, losing 1-0 to fellow non-league side Woking.

Mansfield Town v Chorley

  • Mansfield have been eliminated at this stage of the FA Cup in three of the last four seasons, however, when they did advance to the second round, it came against non-league Shaw Lane Association in November 2017.
  • Chorley are making their third successive appearance in the Emirates FA Cup first round proper, taking Doncaster Rovers to a replay last season, although they lost 7-0 in the following contest.
  • As a league club, Mansfield Town have only failed to progress from one of their last 18 FA Cup ties against non-league clubs, a 2-1 loss to Southport in December 1998.

MK Dons v Port Vale

  • MK Dons and Port Vale have met once previously in the FA Cup, MK winning 4-3 away from home at this exact stage in 2013-14.
  • MK Dons have lost their last two FA Cup ties against league sides, both of those losses coming against four tier opposition (Grimsby in November 2018 and Coventry in January 2018).
  • Port Vale have lost nine of their last 11 FA Cup ties against opponents from a higher division (W2), their last win coming in November 2017 against third tier Oxford United.

Nantwich Town v AFC Fylde

  • This will be the first FA Cup meeting between Nantwich Town and AFC Flyde.
  • Nantwich Town are making just their third appearance in the FA Cup first round proper, losing 6-0 to MK Dons in 2011-12 and 5-0 to Stevenage in 2017-18.
  • AFC Fylde are making just their fifth appearance in the FA Cup first round proper, in 2017-18 they reached the second round after beating non-league Kidderminister Harriers.
  • Nantwich Town hail from the Northern Premier League Premier Division, the seventh tier in English football – no team from the seventh tier or lower progressed to the second round last season.

Oxford City v Solihull Moors

  • This is the first FA Cup meeting between Oxford City and Solihull Moors.
  • Oxford City last faced Solihull Moors in October 2014 when both sides were playing in the sixth tier of English football, Solihull winning 4-1 in the non-league clash.
  • Oxford City are making their third successive appearance in the FA Cup first round. They reached the second round for the second time in their history after defeating league side Colchester United in November 2017.
  • Solihull Moors have reached the FA Cup first round every season since making their debut in 2016-17 - last season they progressed to the second round after a 2-0 victory over non-league Hitchin Town.

Salford City v Burton Albion

  • Burton Albion have lost their last six FA Cup ties, the Brewers last victory coming in December 2013, a second round replay victory over Fleetwood Town.
  • Salford City will be entering the FA Cup first round as a league club for the first time and the third time in their history, reaching the second round in 2015-16.
  • Burton are unbeaten against lower-league opponents in the FA Cup (W3 D1), however each of those matches came when they were a fourth tier club against non-league opposition.

Shrewsbury Town v Bradford City

  • This will be the third FA Cup tie between Shrewsbury Town and Bradford City, the Shrews most recently progressing after a replay in the first round in November 1990.
  • Shrewsbury have progressed from the FA Cup first round in each of the last five campaigns, last failing to do so in November 2013, losing 3-0 to Walsall.
  • Bradford City have progressed in three of their last four FA Cup ties against sides from a higher division, although their last meeting came against Reading in March 2015, losing 3-0 in a quarter-final replay.

Stevenage v Peterborough United

  • This will be the fourth match in all competitions between Stevenage and Peterborough but their first in the FA Cup.
  • Stevenage have failed to score in five of their last seven FA Cup ties, including each of the last three. However, the two games they did net in, they bagged five (10 in total).
  • Peterborough have progressed from the FA Cup first round in each of the last 10 occasions they’ve entered the competition at this stage.

Stourbridge v Eastleigh

  • The only previous FA Cup meeting between these two sides came in December 2015, Eastleigh winning 2-0 at Stourbridge in the second round.
  • Eastleigh are appearing in the FA Cup first round for the fifth time, they’ve progressed past this stage in each of the last three campaigns they’ve got to the first round.
  • Stourbridge are making their sixth appearance in the FA Cup first round proper, their last appearance came in 2016-17, reaching the third round for the first time.
  • Eastleigh have progressed in three of their last four FA Cup ties against fellow non-league opponents from the first round proper onwards, including the last two.

Tranmere Rovers v Wycombe Wanderers

  • This will be the first FA Cup meeting between Tranmere and Wycombe.
  • Tranmere are winless in five home FA Cup ties (D2 L3), conceding 22 goals in their last five such matches at an average of 4.4 per game, most recently losing 0-7 against Tottenham Hotspur in 2018-19.
  • Wycombe have won seven of their last 10 away matches in the FA Cup (L3), but were defeated at this stage away to Luton Town last season (0-2).

Walsall v Darlington

  • Walsall have met Darlington just once before in the FA Cup, losing 1-0 in a first round match in November 1931.
  • Walsall have been eliminated in their last two FA Cup ties against non-league opponents, a 1-0 defeat to Macclesfield in the first round in November 2016 and a replay at this stage against Lincoln in November 2012.
  • Darlington will be entering the FA Cup first round proper for the first time since the club reformed in 2012.

Yeovil Town v Hartlepool United

  • Yeovil Town have met Hartlepool once before in the FA Cup, losing 4-2 away from home in a second round match in December 2010.
  • Yeovil have scored in 11 of their last 12 FA Cup ties, only failing to score against Manchester United in the 2017-18 fourth round.
  • Hartlepool United have failed to score in their last three FA Cup matches on the road, including first round games in the past two seasons.

Sunday 10 November

Dover Athletic v Southend United

  • Dover Athletic have lost all three of their FA Cup ties against sides from the third tier or higher, by an aggregate score of 0-7.
  • This is Southend’s first FA Cup tie against non-league opponents since November 2014, when they lost 1-2 against Chester in the first round.
  • Southend have won just three of their last 16 away games in the FA Cup (D6 L7), though these victories have come in their last six on the road in the competition.

Barnet v Fleetwood Town

  • Non-league Barnet achieved their best FA Cup campaign since 2007-08 last season, beating two league sides to reach the fourth round before losing to Championship club Brentford.
  • Since becoming a Football League club in 2012-13, Fleetwood have had previous seven FA Cup ties against non-league opposition, progressing from each one.
  • Fleetwood striker Paddy Madden scored in each of the club’s three FA Cup ties last season (4 goals), also providing an assist.

Bristol Rovers v Bromley

  • Bromley are making an appearance in the FA Cup first round for the third successive season, last achieving such a feat in 1951-52.
  • Bristol Rovers have been knocked out of the FA Cup in their three previous ties against non-league opponents, doing so at this stage last season against Barnet, losing 2-1 in a replay.
  • Bromley have failed to make it past the FA Cup first round on the last 13 occasions they’ve reached this stage, conceding 49 goals in these ties (15 games). They last reached the second round in 1945-46.

Chippenham Town v Northampton Town

  • This is just Chippenham Town’s third appearance in the FA Cup, going out in round one against Leyton in 1951-52 and against Worcester City in 2005-06.
  • Northampton have been eliminated at this stage of the Emirates FA Cup in each of the last two seasons. They’ve not gone out in the first round in three consecutive years since 1978-79 to 1980-81.
  • Northampton have won six of their last nine FA Cup ties against non-league sides, though they did lose their last such match against Stourbridge in December 2016.

Gateshead v Oldham Athletic

  • Non-league Gateshead are making their eighth appearance in the FA Cup first round in the last 11 seasons, progressing to the second round three times in this period.
  • Oldham have progressed from 13 of their last 14 FA Cup ties against non-league opposition, only failing to do so in December 2016 against Lincoln.
  • Gateshead have only progressed past a league side in one of their 10 such FA Cup ties, a 2-0 victory against Halifax Town in November 2000.

Leyton Orient v Maldon & Tiptree

  • Leyton Orient have won eight of their last nine FA Cup ties against non-league opponents (D1), drawing against Droylsden in the second round in 2010-11 before defeating them in a replay.
  • Maldon & Tiptree are making their first appearance in the FA Cup first round. Their journey this season started on 24 August against Saffron Walden Town in the preliminary round.
  • Leyton Orient are looking to reach the FA Cup second round for the first time since 2015-16, beating non-league Staines Town 6-1 in the first round that season.

Macclesfield Town v Kingstonian

  • Macclesfield Town have progressed from five of their last six FA Cup ties against non-league opponents, however they were knocked out by National League side Maidstone United last season at this very stage.
  • Kingstonian are making their first appearance in the FA Cup first round proper since 2000-01, a campaign in which they reached the fourth round after beating opponents from the third and fourth tier.
  • Macclesfield Town have been eliminated at this stage in three of their last four FA Cup campaigns, including each of the last two seasons.

Wrexham v Rochdale

  • This will be the seventh FA Cup meeting between these Wrexham and Rochdale; the Red Dragons have won all six of the previous meetings, between 1934 and 1999.
  • Wrexham have won each of their last three FA Cup first round ties, but have lost each of their last five games at this stage when facing sides within the top four tiers.
  • Rochdale have progressed from the first round of the FA Cup in six consecutive seasons, last falling at this hurdle in 2012-13 against Morecambe.

York City v Altrincham

  • York and Altrincham will face off in the FA Cup for the first time since the 1985-86 season when York, then a third-tier side, defeated Altrincham 2-0 in the fourth round.
  • Altrincham have lost each of their last two FA Cup ties against fellow non-league sides, as many losses as they had accrued across their previous 16 games against such opposition (W12 D2 L2).
  • York City are currently winless in nine FA Cup ties since beating Darlington 2-0 in November 2010 (D3 L6), losing in the first round last season away to Swindon Town (1-2).
  • Altrincham’s last away win in the competition was back in 2001-02 against Lancaster City in a first round replay, drawing twice and losing three times since.

Hayes & Yeading v Oxford United

  • The last time Hayes & Yeading and Oxford United faced each other was in non-league football, Hayes & Yeading winning 2-1 in April 2010.
  • Hayes & Yeading are making just their second appearance in the FA Cup first round, the other occasion coming in November 2010, when they lost 2-1 to Wycombe Wanderers.
  • Since returning to the Football League in 2010-11, Oxford have won each of their seven FA Cup ties against non-league opposition.
  • Oxford United have progressed from the FA Cup first round in six of the last seven campaigns, only failing to do so in November 2017, losing 2-0 to Port Vale.

Monday 11 November

Harrogate Town v Portsmouth

  • Harrogate are making just their fourth appearance in the FA Cup first round proper, last doing so in 2012-13 when they made the second round for the first time.
  • Since being relegated from the Championship in 2011-12, Portsmouth have failed to progress from the FA Cup first round in five of the last seven campaigns, although they did beat non-league Maidenhead United 4-0 last season.
  • Harrogate Town will be playing their first match against a side from the English third tier or higher. Torquay were playing in the fourth tier in 2005-06 and 2012-13 when Town faced them in the competition.
