How exciting is it to be starting a new Euro campaign this month?
Yes, very much so. Last summer was like a little taster for me with the U21s and I can’t wait to get back with the team again when we meet up and I’m hoping it will be a positive trip.
The new squad for this campaign includes a few of the players from your own age group, along with a few of the lads who were involved last season, so there’ll be a few familiar faces for you?
Yeah, it’ll be a younger group compared to last season’s, but that’s the nature of the team and we’ll grow together from here. We all know each other and we all get on well, so we just need to make sure that happens on the pitch too. We’re just looking forward to the games and we can’t wait to get going.
Indeed, when you look at the new U21s squad, there’s quite a number of players who have been featuring regularly for their clubs in the Premier League this season, which is encouraging…
That’s the pathway which England wants, seeing more young players featuring for their clubs and progressing. I think the intensity and sharpness of our training will be high as a result of that and the quality will be there. I think all of us just can’t wait to meet up, hear that first whistle and get playing.
You’ve had a busier start to the season than most, with Wolves’ involvement in the Europa League. How’s that been?
It’s been non-stop since the get-go, we’ve just had games, games and games. But it’s good and the Europa League has given us a good feel for European football and tournament football, which can only help with my experience coming into the U21s. If it helps give that a little extra know-how into this squad, it can only be a good thing.
