England made a winning start to the IBSA Euro Finals in Italy, as Dan English's goal proved enough to beat Germany.
The Para Lions kicked-off the tournament in Rome in fine style and could've enjoyed a bigger scoreline if it wasn't for a heroic display from the German goalkeeper.
Jon Pugh's side will be more than happy to register an opening day victory though as they begin a run of four games in four days.
After a tight start to the game, with few opportunities in the early stages, it was Germany who forced England goalkeeper Dylan Malpas into the first save of the game.
But the Para Lions soon started to exert control of the game, with English's shot hitting the side netting before Roy Turnham saw a low drive tipped wide of the post.
With England enjoying a strong spell of pressure, they made the breakthrough four minutes before the break when English won possession in his own half before dribbling down the left and slotting home a shot via the far post to give his side a deserved lead.
The second half followed a similar path, with England enjoying the better of the opportunities but just unable to find a second goal.
With just a single goal lead, Germany sensed the chance of an equaliser and started to push in the later stages, but Malpas and his defence were able to fend off the late attacks.
And with less than two minutes to go, Turnham almost found a second goal when he skipped past a defender to bear down on goal only to see his shot saved.
From the resulting corner, sub Darren Harris then had his shot saved which proved to be the final chance of the game.
