As a club, we have a strong culture around tolerance and inclusivity and are pleased to support the Football Leadership Diversity Code.
We have an active LGBTQ+ group and the rainbow flag is in a prominent position in the Abbey Stadium. In 2019, we appointed our first-ever female member to our Board of Directors and alongside this, our head of youth football, responsible for over 1000 young footballers, is female.
The club is part of the FA Scholarship Scheme to help BAME coaches commence a professional coaching career and we are strong supporters of the Kick It Out campaign.
And our Community Trust won the EFL League Two project of the Year award last season for our work in improving awareness of mental health in schools.
Quite simply, however, whatever we have done, we can do more.
We believe that an openness to engage with our diverse population brings genuine benefits to society as a whole.
Football has moved on significantly in the way it approaches the issue of diversity, but it is far from perfect.
There are elements of our game that are not good and our hope is that by engaging actively with this Code will help us share ideas and learn from others.
Embracing diversity is not the norm and hopefully this Code will move us all in the right direction at a faster pace.
