Baiteze FC claimed their first FA Sunday Cup title after a 2-0 win over Highgate Albion in the 2021-22 FA Sunday Cup Final at the Den.
An early goal from Shomari Barnwell in just the third minute settled the nerves for the east London-based outfit against their opponents from the north of the capital.
And after a tense game of cat and mouse following the early breakthrough, the game was settled in the dying stages when Chakka Barnett doubled the advantage with a killer second.
With both teams well supported at the home of Millwall FC, everything was set for a bright afternoon featuring two of the best of the country's best grassroots teams, who began their journey last October.
And the crowd didn't have to wait long for the opening goal, which came via a well-worked counter after a Highgate attack when Adeyinka Cole broke through the middle before picking out Samuel Jeremiah on the right. His centre was perfect for Barnwell, who was left with the simple task of slotting home and he made no mistake from close range.
And with Highgate pushing for an equaliser to take the Final to extra time, Baiteze secured the Cup with less than five minutes remaining.
The goal was created by two substitutes combining, as Barnett played in Alex Teniola whose long-range effort cannoned back off the underside of the bar and back into the box. Barnett had followed up from deep though and was on the spot to nod home and double their advantage to set off the celebrations.
There were 64 grassroots clubs who started out in the 2021-22 Sunday Cup, England's biggest Sunday League competition, last November.
