The second round proper of the Emirates FA Cup is almost upon us as the competition resumes on Friday night.

We take a look ahead to this weekend’s ties and all the standout stats and facts you need to know.

Harrogate Town v Gainsborough Trinity

Friday 29 January, 7.45pm

  • As a Football League side, Harrogate Town have won all three of their FA Cup ties against non-League opponents by an aggregate score of 11-3. This is their first ever meeting with Gainsborough Trinity in the competition proper.
  • Gainsborough Trinity have been eliminated from their last 15 FA Cup ties against Football League opponents, since beating Gateshead AFC in November 1938.
  • Harrogate Town are looking to reach the FA Cup third round for just the second time, previously doing so in 2021-22.
  • In the current format of the competition (since 1925-26), Gainsborough Trinity have lost all 10 of their FA Cup second round ties. This is their first appearance at this stage since 1952-53 (1-2 vs Newport County).

Wealdstone v Wycombe Wanderers

Saturday 30 November, 11.30am

  • This is the first meeting between Wealdstone and Wycombe in the FA Cup, with the Chairboys winning their last six matches against non-League opponents in the competition.
  • Wealdstone won 1-0 at Grimsby in the first round – only in 1977 have they won consecutive FA Cup matches against Football League opponents (Hereford United and Reading).
  • Wealdstone are looking to reach the third round of the FA Cup for just the second time in their history, previously doing so in 1977-78 (eliminating Football League opponents in rounds one and two back then).
  • Wycombe have won two of their last three matches in the FA Cup (L1), having won just one of their previous nine in the competition (D2 L6).

Accrington Stanley v Swindon Town

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • Accrington Stanley have scored at least twice in their last five meetings with Swindon in all competitions (W3 D1 L1), including a 2-2 draw in League Two earlier this month.
  • Accrington Stanley have lost four of their last six home games in the FA Cup proper (W2), more than they had in their previous 21 such games (W11 D7 L3).
  • Accrington have won each of their last three FA Cup second round ties, beating Woking 3-0 in 2016-17, Cheltenham 3-1 in 2018-19 and Barnet 1-0 in 2022-23.
  • Swindon are looking to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time since 2021-22. They’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last 21 matches in the competition (3-0 v Crewe in November 2021).

AFC Wimbledon v Dagenham & Redbridge

Saturday 30 November, 7.15pm

  • This is the first meeting between AFC Wimbledon and Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup proper, and first in any competition since a 2-0 away win for the Wombles in League Two in April 2016.
  • Dagenham eliminated League Two Crewe Alexandra in the first round – they’ve never knocked out Football League opposition in consecutive rounds of the FA Cup before.
  • AFC Wimbledon have progressed from six of their last eight FA Cup second round ties, having lost their first three at this stage between 2010-11 and 2012-13.
  • Dagenham & Redbridge are looking to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time since 2015-16, and for the first time as a non-League side since 2002-03.

Barnsley v Bristol Rovers

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • Barnsley have won both of their previous FA Cup meetings with Bristol Rovers, beating them 4-0 in February 1910 (second round) and 4-1 in February 1999 (fifth round).
  • Bristol Rovers have lost their last six away games against Barnsley in all competitions, since a 1-0 win in November 1991. They’ve already lost 2-1 at Oakwell this season in League One.
  • Barnsley have scored 11 goals in their last three FA Cup home matches, beating Barrow 5-4, Crewe 3-0 and drawing 3-3 with Horsham. They last scored 3+ goals in more consecutive home games in the competition between February 1998 and February 1999 (5).
  • Bristol Rovers have reached the third round of the FA Cup in four of the last five seasons, with the only exception coming in 2022-23 when they lost 2-0 to Boreham Wood in round two.

Cambridge United v Wigan Athletic

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • Cambridge have won three of their last four meetings with Wigan in all competitions (L1), more than they had in their previous 15 against the Latics (W2 D8 L5).
  • This is the first ever FA Cup meeting between Cambridge and Wigan. The Latics are winless in their last four visits to the U’s in all competitions (D2 L2), already losing 2-0 in League One this season.
  • Cambridge are looking to reach the FA Cup third round in consecutive seasons (when playing outside the top two tiers) for the first time since a run of three between 1988-89 and 1990-91.
  • Wigan have won their last three away games in the FA Cup by an aggregate score of 5-0. They last won more consecutively on the road between January 2013 and March 2014 (7), during which time they won the trophy.

Crawley Town v Lincoln City

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • This is the first ever meeting between Crawley and Lincoln in the FA Cup proper. Crawley have already beaten the Imps 3-0 at home this season, in a league match last month.
  • Lincoln City won 4-0 at Chesham United in the first round of the FA Cup, their joint-biggest margin of victory away from home in the competition along with a 5-1 win at Hull Town in November 1884.
  • Crawley have won just three of their last 12 home games in the FA Cup (D1 L8), with all three wins being by a three goal margin (3-0 v Chelmsford 2012-13, 4-1 v Scunthorpe 2019-20, 3-0 v Leeds 2020-21).
  • Lincoln City are looking to reach the third round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2018-19, going out at this stage of the competition twice since then (2020-21, 2021-22).

Exeter City v Chesterfield

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • This is the first ever meeting between Exeter City and Chesterfield in the FA Cup proper, and first in any competition since a 2-1 win for the Grecians in April 2018 (League Two).
  • Chesterfield have won their last three FA Cup second round ties, with each of these coming in the last three seasons. They’ve never progressed from this round of the competition in four consecutive campaigns before.
  • Exeter beat Barnet 5-3 in the first round, the first time they’d scored 5+ goals in an FA Cup match (excluding qualifiers) since beating Leatherhead 5-0 in November 1980.
  • Will Grigg scored a brace in Chesterfield’s 3-1 win over Horsham in the first round. He last scored in consecutive matches in the FA Cup proper in January/February 2018, with his goals back then eliminating Premier League sides West Ham United and Manchester City for Wigan.

Leyton Orient v Oldham Athletic

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • Leyton Orient are unbeaten in their last six home games against Oldham in all competitions (W3 D3) since a 3-1 loss in League One in September 2011.
  • This is the fifth time Leyton Orient and Oldham have drawn each other in the FA Cup proper – the O’s progressed from the first two in 1985-86 and 1991-92 (both third round), with the Latics winning the most recent two encounters (2004-05 second round, 2014-15 first round).
  • Leyton Orient have been eliminated from two of their last four FA Cup ties against non-league opponents (excluding qualifiers), going out of the competition at this stage last season against Chesterfield.
  • Oldham are looking to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time since 2020-21 and have already eliminated Football League opposition in the competition this term (2-1 v Tranmere in round one).

Morecambe v Bradford City

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • Morecambe are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Bradford in all competitions (W2 D2), with this the first ever meeting between the sides in the FA Cup.
  • Bradford have won just one of their last 14 FA Cup away games against sides from England’s top four tiers (D5 L8 – not including void defeat to Exeter in 2021), with that victory coming at José Mourinho’s Chelsea in January 2015 (4-2).
  • Morecambe have won their last three FA Cup second round ties and are looking to reach the third round of the competition for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
  • Bradford are looking to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time since 2017-18, going out at this stage of the competition twice since then (2018-19 and 2020-21).

Peterborough United v Notts County

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • Peterborough United have progressed from all three of their previous FA Cup ties against Notts County, with these coming in 1962-63, 1980-81 and 2016-17.
  • Notts County have won just one of their last 18 meetings with Peterborough in all competitions (D5 L12), with this their first such encounter since a 2-0 loss in an FA Cup second round replay in December 2016.
  • Peterborough have progressed from 14 of their last 15 FA Cup ties against sides from a lower division than themselves, with the exception being a 2-1 loss to non-League Chorley in 2020-21.
  • Notts County are looking to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time since 2017-18. The Magpies have lost their last five FA Cup ties against sides from a higher division.

Salford City v Cheltenham Town

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • Salford City have won just one of their five meetings with Cheltenham Town in all competitions (D1 L3), though it was a 2-1 home win earlier this season in League Two.
  • This is the first FA Cup meeting between Salford and Cheltenham – the only previous cup match between the sides was a 3-1 win for the Robins in the 2022-23 EFL Trophy.
  • Salford City are looking to reach the third round of the FA Cup for the very first time, going out at this stage of the competition three times previously (2015-16, 2020-21, 2021-22).
  • Cheltenham won 3-1 at Rotherham in the FA Cup first round this season – not since December 2011 (vs Tranmere and Luton) have they won consecutive away games in the competition proper.

Stevenage v Mansfield Town

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • This is the first ever meeting between Stevenage and Mansfield in the FA Cup, with all 18 previous games between the sides coming in the league. The Boro have already beaten the Stags 1-0 in League One this term, but have never won consecutive games against them.
  • Having lost their first away game against Stevenage 3-0 in September 2014, Mansfield are now unbeaten in their last seven such visits (W5 D2).
  • Stevenage are looking to reach the third round of the FA Cup in three consecutive campaigns for the first time.
  • Mansfield have won four of their last five away games in the FA Cup (L1), including a 4-0 win at Curzon Ashton in this season’s first round.

Stockport County v Brackley Town

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • This is the first meeting between Stockport and Brackley Town in the FA Cup proper, and first in any competition since a 1-0 win for Brackley in the 2018-19 National League North.
  • Brackley Town have eliminated Football League opposition from the FA Cup twice before (L3) – Gillingham in 2013-14 and Gillingham again in 2016-17.
  • Stockport were knocked out of the FA Cup by Aldershot Town last season – they’ve not been eliminated from the competition proper by a non-League side in consecutive campaigns since 1985-86 (Telford United) and 1986-87 (Caernarfon Town).
  • Brackley are looking to reach the third round of the FA Cup for the first time, being knocked out of the competition at this stage in 2013-14, 2016-17 and 2020-21.

Walsall v Charlton Athletic

Saturday 30 November, 3.00pm

  • The away side has won 2-1 in all three of the previous FA Cup meetings between Walsall and Charlton – the Addicks won in 1972-73, with the Saddlers winning the most recent two (1986-87 and 2001-02).
  • Charlton are unbeaten in their last nine meetings with Walsall in all competitions (W6 D3), most recently a 1-0 away win in the 2022-23 EFL Cup.
  • Walsall have won three of their last four home games in the FA Cup (L1), as many as they had in their previous 13 (D5 L5).
  • Charlton have been eliminated from their last six FA Cup ties against sides from the top four tiers of English league football, since beating Mansfield 5-0 in a first round replay in 2018-19.

Blackpool v Birmingham City

Sunday 1 December, 3.00pm

  • This is the first FA Cup meeting between Blackpool and Birmingham since January 1967, with the Blues winning a third round tie 2-1 back then.
  • Birmingham have won just one of their last seven away games against Blackpool in all competitions (D3 L3), winning a Championship encounter 2-1 in February 2014.
  • Blackpool have progressed from their last 10 FA Cup second round ties, last going out at this stage of the competition in 2000-01 (0-1 vs Yeovil Town).
  • This is Birmingham’s first FA Cup second round tie since 1994-95, while the last time the Blues didn’t feature in the third round of the competition was in 1992-93.

Burton Albion v Tamworth

Sunday 1 December, 2.00pm

  • This is the second meeting in the FA Cup proper between Burton Albion and Tamworth, with the Lambs winning 2-1 in the first round in 2006-07 previously (both as non-League sides).
  • Tamworth beat League One Huddersfield in the first round – only once have they won consecutive FA Cup ties against Football League opponents doing so in the first two rounds in 2005-06 (Bournemouth and Hartlepool).
  • As a Football League side, Burton Albion have progressed from six of their seven FA Cup ties against non-league opponents, with the exception being a 1-0 loss at Barnet in November 2020.
  • Tamworth are looking to reach the FA Cup third round for the first time since 2011-12, though this is only their second campaign in the competition proper since then after 2013-14.

Kettering Town v Doncaster Rovers

Sunday 1 December, 12.00pm

  • Kettering Town have progressed from four of their last six FA Cup ties against Football League opponents, with this their first ever competitive meeting with Doncaster Rovers.
  • Doncaster Rovers have progressed from six of their last seven FA Cup ties against non-League opponents, though the exception was in their most recent such match against Kings Lynn Town in November 2022.
  • This is Kettering Town’s first appearance in the FA Cup second round since 2009-10, when they were eliminated by Leeds United. They last reached the third round of the competition the season before in 2008-09.
  • Doncaster Rovers have only lost three of their last 14 away games in the FA Cup (W9 D2), winning six of their last eight on the road.

Reading v Harborough Town

Sunday 1 December, 2.00pm

  • This will be the first ever meeting between Reading and Harborough Town – the Royals have lost their last two FA Cup ties against non-League opponents (vs Kidderminster Harriers in 2021-22 and Eastleigh last season).
  • Harborough Town are looking to become the first team to reach the third round of the FA Cup in their debut campaign in the competition proper since MK Dons in 2004-05, and the first non-League team to do so since Whitley Bay in 1989-90.
  • Reading have won nine of their last 13 home games in the FA Cup (D2 L2), including each of the last three in a row.
  • Ben Stephens has scored in both of his appearances in the FA Cup proper, with these games coming almost six years apart – he netted a brace for Harborough Town against Tonbridge Angels in this year’s first round, after also scoring for Macclesfield Town against Maidstone United in November 2018.

Solihull Moors v Bromley

Sunday 1 December, 3.15pm

  • This is the first meeting between Solihull Moors and Bromley in the FA Cup proper. They last met at Wembley Stadium in May, with Bromley winning the National League play-off final on penalties to win promotion to League Two.
  • Bromley have scored in each of their six meetings with Solihull Moors in all competitions over the past two seasons, netting 13 goals in total.
  • Solihull Moors are looking to reach the third round of the FA Cup for the very first time, going out at this stage of the competition four times previously (all since 2016-17).
  • Bromley are looking to reach the third round of the FA Cup for the very first time, with this just their third appearance in the second round of the competition after 1937-38 and 1938-39.
