Dean Cornelius' 57th-minute header proved enough to help Harrogate Town see off Gainsborough Trinity and progress into the FA Cup third round for the second time in their history
Cornelius rose to meet James Daley's not long into the second-half, capping off a run of sustained pressure from hosts Harrogate Town against a resilient Gainsborough side at the Exercise Stadium.
The Sulphurites enjoyed the better of proceedings from the off, enjoying the lion's share of possession as they looked to prevent any chance of an upset in Yorkshire.
The first chance of the game saw Josh March almost break the deadlock after latching onto a through-ball in the ninth minute, only for Trinity defender Ash Jackson to perfectly time his tackle to avert any danger posed by the forward.
Moments later, Gainsborough found their backs to the wall again, scrambling the ball away after a pair of blocks from Will Lancaster and Dylan Wharton as they weathered the storm.
Down the other end of the pitch, Trinity's first attempt at goal came through Sisa Tuntulwana, with the defender's left-footed effort blocked amidst a sea of yellow shirts.
But that would prove a temporary respite as the Sulphurites continued to pile on the pressure, with March heading over the bar after meeting Stephen Duke-McKenna's delivery.
Duke-McKenna would then force a fine save from Wharton before March found himself at the centre of the action again, his strike narrowly rolling past the post.
The forward's movement off-the-ball had been causing Gainsborough problems all evening and it wouldn't be long before March would find another opportunity to open the scoring, only to fire high after crashing into the box as the two sides went into the break tied at 0-0.
The restart saw Harrogate Town pick up where they left off, and they would soon finally break through Trinity's brave resistance, Cornelius rising to meet James Daly's cross to give his side the lead.
That seemed to spark the visitors in life as they began to commit men forward, with Gainsborough midfielder Fraser Preston forcing Harrogate Town keeper James Belshaw into action.
With less than an hour left on the clock, a Duke-McKenna freekick almost doubled the hosts' advantage, though the winger could only watch as his attempt curled into the side netting.
Minutes later, Daly's early cross flew over the Trinity defence and into the path of teammate Jack Muldoon, though the forward would soon be caught offside.
With time running out, Gainsborough mounted wave after wave of attack in desperate search of an equaliser; Aaron Simpson firing wide after a Trinity corner.
And in the end it was not to be as Harrogate Town emerged victorious at the final whistle to reach the third round for only the second time in their history.
