Chelsea v Liverpool

This is the second time in the last three seasons that Chelsea and Liverpool are set to face in the Women’s FA Cup – the Blues knocked out the Reds in the fourth round in 2022-23 on their way to winning the trophy.

Liverpool have lost 16 of their last 19 games in all competitions against Chelsea (W2 D1) and have lost each of their last 10 away games against the Blues by an aggregate score of 32-8.

Chelsea have won 21 of their last 22 matches in the FA Cup, but their one defeat was in last season’s semi-final away at Manchester United.

Liverpool are looking to reach the Women’s FA Cup final for the first time since 1996, when they knocked out Arsenal in the semi-finals on penalties after a 0-0 draw. The final also went to penalties after a 1-1 draw, losing 3-2 on pens to Croydon (now known as Charlton).

Chelsea have reached seven Women’s FA Cup finals, with only Arsenal (17), Doncaster Rovers Belles (13) and Southampton (10) reaching more. The seven they’ve played in since 2011-12 are two more than any other side in that time.

Liverpool are in the Women’s FA Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2016-17, when they lost 1-0 to Manchester City. They’ve lost their last four semi-finals, against Leeds in 2005-06, Bristol Academy in 2010-11 and Arsenal in 2012-13, as well as that loss to Man City in 2016-17.

Chelsea’s Mayra Ramírez has been involved in four goals in five appearances in the Women’s FA Cup (3 goals, 1 assist) and she scored the opener in their 3-0 win over Liverpool in the WSL in November 2024.

Marie-Therese Höbinger has been involved in three goals in the Women’s FA Cup this season (1 goal, 2 assists), the most of any Liverpool player. She assisted two goals in a 4-3 win over Chelsea in the WSL in May 2024.

Manchester City v Manchester United

Manchester City have won four of their last five matches against Manchester United in all competitions (L1), though they lost 4-2 at home to their rivals earlier this campaign in the WSL.

Manchester United last faced rivals Manchester City in the Women’s FA Cup in February 2022, losing 4-1. Since that defeat, they’ve won 12 of 13 games in the competition, losing to Chelsea in the 2023 final.

Man City have lost three of their last seven home games in all competitions (W4), as many as they’d lost in their previous 49 combined (W41 D5). They lost 4-2 to Man Utd earlier this season in the WSL – they’ve never lost twice at home against a team in a season since joining the WSL in 2014.

Having featured in the 2022-23 (lost to Chelsea) and 2023-24 (won vs Spurs) Women’s FA Cup finals, Manchester United are looking to reach the final in three consecutive seasons. The last side to reach three finals in a row was Chelsea between 2021 and 2023, while the last side from outside London to do so was Liverpool between 1994 and 1996.

Manchester City are into their first Women’s FA Cup semi-final since the 2021-22 season, when they beat West Ham 4-1. They reached eight in a row between 2014-15 and 2021-22 and their nine semi-finals since 2014-15 are bettered only by Chelsea (10, including this season).

Khadija Shaw has scored 12 goals in 12 Women’s FA Cup matches for Manchester City, with one of those coming against Manchester United in February 2022. She’s the leading scorer in the competition among WSL players since her debut on 29 January 2022.

Celin Bizet Ildhusøy has had a hand in five goals in her two Women’s FA Cup appearances for Manchester United this season, scoring a hat-trick against West Brom and assisting two against Sunderland. She has scored or assisted every 24 minutes in the competition this campaign.

Ella Toone has scored six goals in her last eight Women’s FA Cup appearances, also assisting three goals in this run for Manchester United. She scored a hat-trick in the 4-2 win over Manchester City in January in a WSL meeting.
