Holders Manchester United were pushed hard for more than an hour by West Bromwich Albion before pulling away to book their place in the Fifth Round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Melvine Malard put United 1-0 up midway through the first half, but that was all they could manage until the 77th-minute against their FA Women’s National League opposition.
The introduction of Ella Toone, on her return from injury, appeared to make the difference, with fellow substitute Rachel Williams grabbing a hat-trick as United eventually ran out 7-0 winners.
Malard opened the scoring on 23 minutes with a clever finish, but the Baggies kept them at bay for the rest of the half.
It was a similar story early in the second period, but two headers in three minutes from Williams eventually ended West Brom’s resistance.

Toone then scored a stunning goal of her own, curling home from distance to make it 4-0 before Celin Bizet grabbed the first of two goals in the final minute of normal time.
Williams wrapped up her hat-trick with another header in stoppage time before Bizet made it six goals in 18 minutes to add a little more gloss to the scoreline.
