En route to glory: Giggs scores spectacular winner against Arsenal in 1999

The scorer of one of the most famous goals in the 14-year history of the FA Cup celebrates his 40th birthday on Friday.

It was on 14 April 1999 in the 109th minute of the FA Cup semi-final replay between Manchester United and Arsenal when a 25-year-old Ryan Giggs picked up a loose ball in his own half, beat several defenders on a mesmerising run and rifled a shot past David Seaman in the Arsenal goal.

The goal proved to be decisive and Manchester United went on to complete an historic treble a month later - claiming the Premier League title, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.

Giggs - the most decorated player in the history of English football - has four FA Cup winners' medals among his vast collection, but perhaps none more celebrated than the one he won in 1999.
