The Blues boss has more than his fair share of experience when it comes to The Cup, being on both the receiving and giving ends of giantkillings in the past.
But with a big squad at his disposal, he sees no reason why his side can’t continue to climb the Championship table and continue their FA Cup exploits.
Highlights of Blues' win in the Third Round Proper
“We want to go as far as we can in The Cup,” he told TheFA.com.
“In all competitions, we have enough players, something like 30 professionals, and have enough bodies and experience to be competitive in this competition and the league.
“A Cup run is great for the club. We want to become a team where winning becomes a habit.
“You can’t just pick and choose the games you win, you have to keep them standards all the time and continue to do the right things in games.
“That is all the players within the squad, and they have to keep doing that.”
Having seen his side avoid upset on Saturday against non-League Blyth Spartans, coming from two down at the break to win 3-2, he admitted to feeling a few nerves due to his previous experiences.
But the former Burton Albion boss says he was glad his men could send their “amazing” fans home happy.
“I played in that Leicester City side which lost to Wycombe when Roy Essandoh, who they signed from Teletext, scored the winner. I’ve seen how it works, and at Burton Albion I’ve been on the other foot.
“So I wouldn’t say I was always confident, but the game is about 90 minutes. I wasn’t happy, and I felt that 2-0 was a little bit harsh on us, and you just hope that the players can respond.”
He added: “The team were a little bit quiet at half time, and at that point I was a little bit worried, but they came out, picked themselves up and showed a little bit of desire.
“A thousand amazing fans travelled up to Blyth and I asked the players to send them home with something to smile about.
“I just thought it was a brilliant afternoon and what this competition is about.”
