England star Karen Carney has become the first female footballer to be inducted into Birmingham City’s Hall of Fame.

  • Born: 1 August 1987
  • Place: Solihull
  • England caps: 100
  • England debut: vs Italy (2005)

The historical move follows Carney becoming only the fourth English woman to gain 100 caps for her country.

That milestone was reached at Wembley Stadium during the 3-0 defeat to Germany in November 2014

Carney’s image will now take pride of place in St. Andrew’s Legend’s Lounge alongside stellar names such as Trevor Francis, Kenny Burns and Christophe Dugarry.

Carney, who adorned the front of the official matchday programme for the visit of the Terriers, also donated a signed England shirt which will sit on the wall of the club’s International Suite.

Karen Carney first joined Birmingham at the age of 11

Solihull-born Carney is a born-and-bred Bluenose who joined the club as an 11-year-old before making her first-team appearance aged just 14.

After spells with Arsenal and Chicago Red Stars, the forward returned to Birmingham in 2011 going on to lead the club to the 2012 FA Women’s Cup and the semi-finals of 2014 UEFA Women’s Champions League.

She made her senior international debut in 2005, and also represented Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics.
