Isobel Christiansen insists Manchester City are only going to get better after her ninth goal of the season ensured they would be playing Champions League football next year.

City started Sunday with a chance of winning the FA Women’s Super League with BT Sport 1 title but while Chelsea beat Sunderland to seal top spot, Christiansen and Nikita Parris fired City to a 2-1 victory over Notts County.

Rachel Williams had equalised for the visitors but Christiansen admitted it was a great feeling to have scored the goal which sealed second place in the table.

“We’ve proved we’re exceptionally fit and strong after playing on Thursday night, we’ve proved we’re a good side and we’re going to be even better next season,” said Christiansen, who scored on her England debut last month.

“It’s always nice to score. The feeling when it hits the net is always amazing but I’m more pleased it was the winning goal and secured European football for us.

“We deserve European football, and I’m sure we’re only going to get stronger after the winter. It was our aim before the kick-off and we’ve gone out and done it.

“Obviously we’re disappointed to miss out on the title but the Champions League was a target at the start of the year, and obviously we’ve achieved that – while we have mixed feelings now, European football will be fantastic.”
