Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger paid tribute to his side’s resilience, as they won a third FA Community Shield title in four years.
The Gunners beat London rivals Chelsea on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Wembley, as both teams hone in on the start of the new season next weekend.
And it was the Emirates FA Cup winners who took the Shield again, when they held their nerve during the spot-kick contest against the Premier League champions having only equalised through substitute Sead Kolasinac’s late header following a red card for Chelsea’s Pedro.
“We had some difficult moments at the start of the second half,” admitted Wenger.
“But after that, we dominated and we always looked dangerous.
“I don’t know if [Pedro] was a sending off or not, but at that moment, we were dominating.”
Whilst happy to pick up the Shield again, Wenger now knows all eyes will be back on his team when they begin their domestic campaign against Leicester City next weekend.
“It is a dream to make the fans happy, a difficult dream, but we try hard,” he added.
“I would like them to stand behind the team, as we might go through some very good periods and some not so good periods.
“But we want to be united and together throughout the season.”
