Mo Marley's second-half satisfaction following Kazakhstan rout

Mo Marley has helped England maintain their perfect start to World Cup qualifying

Mo Marley congratulated her England players after their second-half blitz allowed them to end 2017 with a resounding World Cup qualifying win over Kazakhstan.

The Lionesses dominated throughout at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium but only had Melissa Lawley’s 15th-minute strike to show for it at the break.

But Marley rallied her troops at half-time and they bagged four goals in 13 second-half minutes to secure a comfortable victory.

She said: “We were not as slick in the first half and we addressed that at half-time, and were much better in the second half, for sure.

“We needed to be patient and let the players playing to their strengths rather than rushing a few things.

“We settled in the second half and got the goals and relaxed a little bit.”

The result means England maintain their 100 per cent start to World Cup qualifying following on from the 6-0 defeat of Russia in September and the 4-0 dismissal of Bosnia last Friday.

It was the final match of Marley’s stint as interim head coach and she thanked the players for their commitment during that period.

She added: “Credit to the players. Obviously it has been a difficult time but they have been professional throughout.

The England players celebrate another big World Cup win

“Particularly on game day they know they have a job to do and obviously the performance in all three games has reflected that and I’m really pleased for them more than anything.”

England sit second in Group 1, one point behind Wales but with a game in hand.

They meet their neighbours on Friday 6 April 2018 at Southampton’s St. Mary’s Stadium.
